Weapon of choice:

Weapon of choice:
Magic. No armor. Might have a small knife, somewhere. (Where did she put that?)
Personality:
Nominal warlock. Despair is young and perky and at her heart a very good person. Book smart but street dumb, but it manifests in strange ways.

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. (It’s easy to dismiss it as a superficial movie, but Elle Woods is a strong character with an almost aggressive optimism.) D’Vana Tendi from Star Trek: Lower Decks. Enthusiastic and intentionally good by choice.

Author Mary Robinette Kowal once wrote, "It's not about adding diversity for the sake of diversity, it's about subtracting homogeneity for the sake of realism." Our world is a vast place, with many different kinds of people telling many different kinds of stories. Our fantasy worlds should be no less dynamic, vivid, and varied. The more stories we tell, the deeper our world can be. We want to tell stories that feature prominent and positive representation for the sake of realism, not to flex our “woke” street cred. Even if our stories do not directly touch on race, gender, and sexuality, the characters in those stories interact with the world through the lenses of their “lived” experiences. Likewise, we would be remiss if our cast of actors did not reflect the depth and breadth of the world we live in (or at least, we’re trying our best.)
